Having issues with your iPhone 3G or 3Gs not charging in the car? The problem is that once Apple switched from Firewire to USB connectors for iPods a few years back, they left the Firewire charger intact on the iPod. It was cheaper for third party charger makers to use the deprecated Firewire connection for charging instead of adjusting the voltage to charge by USB. This still worked with the first gen iPhone. Recently Apple dropped the Firewire connection from the plug so older chargers no longer connected.
Most newer chargers work fine. But look for "works with iPhone 3G" on the package to make sure.
